GONDBA Meeting Minutes

3/28/2012

Today’s meeting was held at the Amber Rose restaurant and was well attended by many local businesses and our local police force. Barry started the meeting with crime updates on the Mills family as well as other locals of similar fame. Please read the crime reports in the GONDBA emails for more details on local offenders.

The guest speaker at today’s meeting was Sgt. Harold Jones from the Riverside Police Dept. He did an awesome presentation on High Tech Crimes and Social Media Crimes and  Female Personal Protection. He provided the group with very useful information on protecting your safety on the internet, whether dealing with email, craig’s list or social media.  A few pearls include: Never give information, whether it’s name, address, social obligations, etc to anyone on the internet that you wouldn’t give to a person standing next to you in line at the grocery store. If you are ever threatened by phone or internet, save the messages and report it at the onset. He cautioned parents against posting pictures of their children on-line, as many predators gather information and seek out these kids at schools, playgrounds and ball fields. Avoid people or groups involved in confrontations as you may inadvertently get pulled into the fray. Have a plan for home invasions, a safe room with a locking door, a phone and a weapon. Remember that the elbow is the strongest bone in the body and can help you defend yourself!

Sgt. Jones has offered to hold a CCW Class for GONDBA members. This is a 1 day class and the cost will be $75.00 each (this is the least expensive CCW class in the area.). He is assisted by a female instructor which makes it much more comfortable for women. Firearms are available for rent and ammunition is also available on site. For more information please email Barry or call 228-3057.
