GONDBA Meeting 6/22/16 Today's meeting was a little different and was held at the 1st District Police Station. * Barry Hall, president, opened the meeting, welcoming attendees and made several announcements. National Night Out/Taste of Old North Dayton is on August 2nd. Watch for more details to come on how to participate in the popular event. * Kervin Valez from Dayton Police Department gave crime stats and information on recent crimes. Stats look really good considering that it is summer! He also mentioned that the next Coffee with a Cop will be in July at the UDF on Brown St. * Scott Reeves updated the group on DaVinci. Wayfinding project is still in the fundraising process. The group is working with a microlending program to help with improvements to Troy St. Construction at the Webster and Stanley intersection is going well. * Matt Tepper from Evans Bakery and the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Assoc. mentioned that there will be an upcoming Walk and Bike Audit of the area to identify areas that need improvements to make them more accessible. There will also be a local neighborhood cleanup from Leonard to Stuart Patterson Park approximately 2 weeks before NNO. Also, at their most recent meeting, there was discussion concerning the Land Use Board and increased enforcement of zoning regulations related to property improvements and the lack of required permits. Our guest speaker was Zach Hastings from the Dayton Police Department. He gave a presentation on police officers’ decision making and discretion. The discussion was very insightful and those who chose to were able to participate in a live simulation that helps citizens understand the split second decisions that must be made by officers in every encounter. Barry closed the meeting, thanking everyone for their participation and reminded participants to submit their dues. Our next meeting will be held on July 27th. See you then!
